This chapter, we had three guest speakers talk to us about various topics: MLK Day of Service, Alternative Break Challenge (ABC), and APO's alcohol policies.

MLK Day of Service

  • February 9th (this Saturday!!)

  • For more info, contact Megan Brabec

  • Only two service projects left: fleece scarves and operation gratitude. Please sign up here, especially for operation gratitude which needs more volunteers!!

ABC

  • Three types of trips:

  • Habitat for Humanity

  • Inner city youth mentoring

  • Trail maintenance

  • Doing a trip can count towards your 5 external service hours

  • Price is $399, but fundraising opportunities are available

  • Participant applications close on Sunday February 10th

  • Trip pick day is Tuesday February 12th

  • Join on Wildcat Link or email unhabc@gmail.com for more information!!

Reminder on APO's alcohol policies

  • It is extremely important that ANY APO event, service project, fellowship, brothers hanging out, etc is NEVER associated with alcohol and alcohol is NEVER consumed at those events

  • Separate APO from illicit activities

  • Be conscientious about your social media accounts; we do not want alcohol tied to APO at all

  • Bigs and littles should not be drinking together

  • If you are under 21, it is illegal and should be done at your own risk

  • For more information, visit Health and Wellness's website

Now is also a good time to revisit conduct at APO service events and fellowships. Any behavior or talk that is against APO and our values is condemned. When you are at these events, you are representing our organization, and it is important to talk about APO for the wonderful organization and family we are. It is also important to stay off your phone, especially during service events like the Current Issue Lecture Series and SVU series. Stay the whole time and represent APO well, please!!

Okay, now that we have gotten the serious and important information done, let's dive into the regular chapter business.

Value of the Week: Inclusivity

Mental Health Minute

In this week's mental health minute, Sarah talked to us about the importance of journaling/writing things down that bother you or stress you out. Doing this allows you to let all our feelings out in a healthy way, and it can be very therapeutic for the mind and soul. Next time you're feeling stressed out, think about giving journaling a try!!

Treasurer

Dues!!!

  • $40 for brothers

  • $85 for PNMs

  • There is a $5 late fee for dues submitted after 2/18

  • There is a $10 late fee for dues submitted after 2/25

  • Please contact Anika if you need to go on a payment plan for dues

How do you pay??

  • The ticket office

  • If you pay in the ticket office, be sure to send Anika a picture of your receipt so she can give you credit for paying.

  • Online

  • Payment plan with Anika

This semester, Anika is using her budget this semester to hold a RAFFLE!!! Everyone who pays their dues by next chapter (pinning!!!) is entered into a raffle to win FREE apparel!!!

Service

  • If you go to the blood drive, please send service a picture of your sticker/you there. It does NOT have to be of you physically donating blood

  • Please do your best to only send one copy of the attendance, as it is easy to overwhelm service by sending multiple attendances. Usually first to sign up takes attendance, but for the most part you can figure it out while at the event.

  • PNMs, feel free to email service for more information on the events to start working on your hours!! It is never too early.

Fellowship

Congratulations to Jaime McGee for being voted in as our new fellowship co-chair!! We are so happy to have you.

Do not forget about the 48hr/24hr attendance policies!

  • If you remove your name less than 48 hours before the fellowship, you will be docked for that fellowship

  • If you remove your name less than 24 hours before the fellowship, you are required to find a replacement

Like service, please only send one attendance.

Please host fellowships!! You will get 0.5 service hours for doing so. To sign up/submit an idea, use the submission portal on the website.

Banquet

  • April 28th at 6pm

  • Join banquet committee!!!

  • Ticket prices coming soon

Membership

Membership survey closes TONIGHT at 11:59pm!! After that, if you have not submitted the survey you will be marked inactive, NO exceptions. If you have not taken the survey, you can access it here.

~Seniors~

Please take the senior survey and join the Facebook group if you have not done so already.

Fundraising

Congratulations to fundraising co-chair Sarah Bizzotto for getting a full-time job for after college!!

SAAs

During this week's chapter meeting, Mohamed introduced a new app, Ourhouse to use to take attendance for APO events like chapter, service projects, and fellowships. The app uses geolocation to pin your location, automatically signing you in for chapter, service projects, or fellowships if you are in the room/at the place the event is taking place. The app also has features like announcements, direct messaging, and posting the lyrics to the Toast Song. The app does cost money, but the balance would be covered by the APO Chapter funds, not out of brother and PNM pockets. We will vote on whether to get and utilize the app during chapter next week!! (Have I mentioned next week's chapter is pinning??)

Bylaws:

- This week Mike and Mohamed presented the chapter with a change in the bylaws, to be voted on next week.

Our current jokester tally:

Mike: 1

Mohamed: 1

The race is tight!! We will see who is crowned The Jokester at the end of the semester.

Historian

There is no picture of the week this week, since no one submitted anything! Hopefully we will have one next week. Please submit photos to Cam!!

Brother of the Week goes to.... Morgan Conklin!!! Congratulations! The award is well deserved.
